Fiona Southorn’s Campaign to the World Road Cycling Champs in Canada

When I found out that good friend Fiona Southorn had only a matter of weeks to raise over $7,500 in order to make it to the World Road Cycling Champs in Canada I decided to put my thinking cap on and come up with a fundraiser to help.

With the community well and truly behind me I set out organising a Fitness Fiesta and Trivia night that would hopefully raise both awareness of Fiona’s amazing selection onto the team representing New Zealand as well as raise some of the much needed funds required for such a trip.

The fitness fiesta was held from 7am to midday, with over 60 people attending the four different classes on offer. This included Spinning, Resistance and Boxing classes. It was a real buzz to have all those people there giving their time, sweat and energy.

There was the Trivia Night, which was again extremely well attended. The theme was favourite sports person or sports team and as you can see, everyone got really into it. With raffles, an amazing auction, loads of spot prizes, great games (like the hula off) and the quiz itself the night was filled with loads of laughs.

A really big thank you has to go to all of the people who donated amazing prizes for the day as well as the town of Waipu. In the end over $5000.00 was raised for Fiona, which was incredible based on the time that we had to raise it. I really wanted to thank all those sponsors because without them it wouldn’t have been possible to pull it all off!
